Why did I get two SSI payments this month?

You did not get paid twice. When the 1st of a month falls on a weekend or holiday, SSI for that month is paid on the last business day of the month before. The second payment is next month's money arriving early, so you will not get another payment on the 1st.

    • April 2027: you get your April SSI on April 1, 2027 and your May 2027 SSI early on April 30, 2027.
    • July 2027: you get your July SSI on July 1, 2027 and your August 2027 SSI early on July 30, 2027.
    • December 2027: you get your December SSI on December 1, 2027 and your January 2028 SSI early on December 30, 2027.

As a result, no SSI payment arrives in January, May and August 2027. Budget the early payment so it lasts until the next one; Social Security does not treat it as extra income.

Month by month: no payment in January, two payments in April, no payment in May, two payments in July, no payment in August, two payments in December.

If you get SSI and Social Security

People who receive both benefits get two deposits each month: SSI on the 1st and Social Security on the 3rd. Both move to the business day before when they land on a weekend or holiday, so in some months the two payments arrive on the same day or only a day apart.

SSI payment dates that move in 2027

When a regular payment date lands on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment is made on the business day before. In 2027, 3 payments move earlier:

    • the January payment due January 1, 2027 (New Year's Day) is paid Thursday, December 31, 2026.
    • the May payment due May 1, 2027 (a Saturday) is paid Friday, April 30, 2027.
    • the August payment due August 1, 2027 (a Sunday) is paid Friday, July 30, 2027.

SSI payment schedule 2027: common questions

When is SSI paid in December 2027?

The December 2027 SSI payment is made on Wednesday, December 1, 2027.

Why did I get two SSI payments in one month?

Because the next month's payment date fell on a weekend or holiday, so it was paid early on the last business day of the month. In 2027 this happens in April, July and December. It is not an extra payment, and there is no SSI payment in January, May and August.

What time does SSI hit my account?

SSA sends the payment to arrive on the payment date. Most banks post it early that morning, but the exact time depends on your bank. Paper checks can take up to 3 extra mailing days.
